Capacitive level measurement

Capacitive level measurement is based on EBE's capaTEC® technology and enables the level of liquids and solids to be determined.

Level sensors for liquids and solids

Our sensor solutions enable continuous measurement of the fill level of aqueous media, even with an air gap of up to 6 mm. Measurement is contact-free and wear-free, with no direct contact between the sensor and the medium, ensuring a high level of reliability.

Thanks to their maintenance-free design, the sensors operate reliably even under challenging conditions such as contamination or biofilm formation. The compact design and standardised plug connection also allow for easy integration into a wide range of applications.

The sensors are available in different versions, with sensor areas of either 25 mm or 96 mm, providing flexible adaptation options for varying requirements.

Easy integration into other applications thanks to compact design and standard plug connection

Our sensor solution for capacitive level measurement using capaTEC® technology developed by EBE is the ideal choice for precise liquid level monitoring in tanks and containers.

Our electronics are encapsulated in a plastic housing, providing optimum protection against moisture and dust and ensuring reliable measurements.

The capacitive sensor operates with high precision and, благодаря multi-channel technology, delivers maximum resolution and stable results. Its compact design and simple installation allow for flexible mounting on a wide range of tanks and containers.

FAQ

Capacitive level sensors consist of electrically conductive plates separated by a dielectric, which forms a capacitor. The fill level of the medium influences the capacitance of this capacitor, as the dielectric constant of the surrounding material changes accordingly.

  • Empty container: The capacitance is low because air has a relatively low dielectric constant.
  • Partially filled container: The capacitance increases as the proportion of the medium, which has a higher dielectric constant, rises.
  • Full container: The capacitance reaches its maximum when the sensor is completely surrounded by the medium.

The sensor continuously measures these changes in capacitance and outputs corresponding signals, which are used to determine the current fill level.

Capacitive level sensors are used in numerous industries and environments, including:

  • Household appliances: Coffee machines, dishwashers, ovens and refrigerators — sensor solutions for storage containers and water tank level monitoring.
  • Medical technology: Dialysis machines and ventilators — level monitoring of various media and containers.
  • Food and beverage industry: Process automation with contactless level measurement in sensitive areas.
  • Heating and air conditioning technology: Level sensors for containers and siphons.
  • Water and wastewater treatment: Accurate measurement of water and wastewater levels in treatment plants.
  • Pharmaceutical industry: Monitoring and dosing of ingredients and medications in production processes.

Capacitive level sensors offer numerous advantages that make them the preferred choice for many applications:

  • High accuracy: They provide precise measurements even with small level fluctuations.
  • Versatility: Suitable for liquids, bulk solids, and even viscous or viscous materials.
  • Insensitivity to temperature: They function reliably over a wide temperature range.
  • No moving parts: This minimizes maintenance and increases the sensor's longevity.
  • Fast response time: Ideal for applications that require fast and accurate measurements.

The compact design and standard plug connection also allow for easy integration into various applications. Our sensors are available in different models, either with a sensor area of 25 mm or 96 mm, offering flexible adaptation options for different requirements.
