A field report
In this project report, we would like to focus on a customized sensor solution for industrial machine tools. The problem was that the previous sensors were unable to reliably detect the lubricant due to their design. Our customized solution in the form of an optoelectronic liquid level sensor successfully solved this problem and is another example of our company's strengths.
Challenges in industrial machine tools and the importance of customized sensor solutions
Reliable detection of lubricants is essential for the optimal performance and service life of industrial machine tools. Conventional standard sensor solutions often reach their limits in this area, as they are not always optimally adapted to the specific operating conditions and requirements of individual machines. Customised sensor solutions are therefore required to fully exploit the potential of such applications.
Optoelectronic liquid level sensor for precise lubricant detection
Our team at IBA-Sensorik worked closely with the customer to analyse the specific requirements and develop an innovative sensor solution. An optoelectronic liquid level sensor was integrated into a stainless steel sensor housing and precisely adapted to the industrial machine tool.
This customised solution ensures optimal sensor positioning, enabling reliable and accurate lubricant detection even under challenging environmental conditions.
Customized electronics for seamless integration
In addition to the sensor itself, the electronics were also adapted to ensure seamless integration into the existing machine tool system. An M8×1 panel-mount connector with a 4-pin interface was implemented, and the sensor electronics were converted from 12 V to 24 V using a dedicated circuit board.

This project once again demonstrates that standard sensor solutions are not always sufficient for complex industrial requirements. Through customised development and assembly, we were able not only to solve the challenge of lubricant detection, but also to enhance the overall efficiency and reliability of the machine tool.
