Honeywell IPM Series
The Honeywell Intelligent Particulate Matter Sensor (IPM series) is a laser-based sensor that detects and measures particle concentration using light scattering to monitor air quality.

Benefits
- High-precision particle measurement of (±10 mg/m3) with calibrated sensor outputs
- Low power consumption of 50 mA (typical) and option to provide (~1.5 mA), ensuring suitability for battery-powered applications
- Intelligent self-calibration through an integrated algorithm to compensate for sensor drift over its lifetime
- Super-slim and robust design thanks to metal housing
- Flexibility in outputs—two digital: I2C and UART, and one analog: PWM

Applications
- Air quality monitoring devices
- Interior air purifiers for motor vehicles
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
The detection concentration range is between 0 µg/m3 and 1,000 µg/m3. A laser light source illuminates a particle as it is drawn through the detection chamber. As the particles pass through the laser beam, the light is reflected by the particles and recorded on the photo or light detector. The light is then analyzed and converted into an electrical signal to calculate the particle concentration. Intelligent self-calibration using a built-in algorithm compensates for sensor drift over its lifetime. This self-calibration takes place every time the device is switched on.
