Float switch

Mechanical level measurement

Float switches provide one of the simplest methods for level measurement.

In most cases, a float switch consists of a float body, a guide tube, an enclosed magnet, limit rings and a reed contact. For example, the float switch can activate a pump when the liquid level falls below a defined threshold, allowing the container to be refilled.

As this measurement principle requires direct contact with the medium, special coatings are available for use in aggressive liquids and demanding environments.

Measuring with float and switch

Mechanical float switches are known for their high reliability and durability. Compared to electronic switches, they are less susceptible to malfunctions or failures.

Thanks to their robust construction, mechanical float switches require minimal maintenance, helping to reduce long-term operating costs.

They are suitable for a wide range of applications, including pump control, water level monitoring and overflow protection.
