Honeywell AWM700 Series
Honeywell air flow sensors operate on the principle of heat transfer. The air mass flow is guided across the surface of the sensor elements, where two sensing elements positioned on either side of a central heating element detect both the direction and velocity of the flow.
The output voltage varies proportionally with the mass flow rate of the air or gas passing through the inlet and outlet openings of the housing. A specially designed housing ensures precise guidance and control of the airflow over the micromachined sensing element.

Possible applications
- Oxygen concentrators
- Ventilation and inhalation devices
- Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
- Anesthesia machines
- Mass flow controllers
- Climate control systems
- Control systems for fuel cells
- Process gas control Welding equipment and lasers

Functionality
In simple terms, an air flow sensor is a device with two pressure ports through which air or gas flows from one port to the other. Inside the sensor is a highly sensitive measuring element with a heated surface.
When air or gas flows across the sensing element, heat is transferred in the direction of the flow. This results in a temperature difference that is proportional to the mass flow of the medium. The temperature difference is detected by an electronic circuit and converted into a corresponding output signal.
- Flow tubes for ranges up to 300 SLPM: Enables low pressure drop in the customer's application.
- Extremely stable zero point and measuring range end values: Requires no recalibration in most applications.
- Compact design
- Improved system accuracy due to low hysteresis and repeatability errors (less than 0.35% of the measured value)
- Improved flow response time of 6 ms
- Low power consumption: Enables use in portable devices and battery-powered applications
