Honeywell Hydrogen Leak Detector HLD Series

The HLD (Hydrogen Leak Detector) sensor uses Honeywell’s advanced compensation algorithm to accurately detect hydrogen leaks across a wide range of applications. Designed for precision and reliability, the HLD sensor is based on state-of-the-art thermal conductivity detection (TCD) technology and delivers outstanding performance with minimal maintenance over a service life of more than ten years.

Its advanced detection capabilities enable reliable identification of hydrogen leaks down to concentrations as low as 50 ppm, making it a highly accurate and long-lasting solution for critical applications.

Functionality

Thermal conductivity detection technology is based on measuring the thermal conductivity of a gas to determine its composition. It is commonly used in gas chromatography to identify and quantify different gases. The fundamental principle involves comparing the thermal conductivity of a sample gas with that of a reference gas.

A thermal conductivity detector (TCD) typically consists of an electrically heated wire or thermocouple surrounded by the gas being analysed. The amount of heat dissipated from the heated element depends on the thermal conductivity of the surrounding gas. By measuring changes in the temperature of the wire or thermocouple, the thermal conductivity — and thus the composition — of the gas can be determined.

This technology is particularly advantageous because it is fast, sensitive and does not rely on chemical reactions.
