Microswitch

Micro switches, also known as miniature snap-action switches, are compact, highly sensitive switches capable of detecting even minimal changes in physical position. They consist of a spring-loaded lever or roller, electrical contacts and an actuator. When an external force is applied to the actuator, the contacts rapidly open or close, switching the electrical circuit.

Structure and functionality

  • Mechanical actuation: Microswitches have a lever or push button that is actuated to trigger the switching process. Actuation can be manual or automatic.
  • Snap-action mechanism: The switch uses a snap-action mechanism that allows the contact to close or open quickly and reliably. This is often achieved by a spring that holds the contact in a specific position.
  • Contact types: Microswitches can have different types of contacts, such as normally open (NO), normally closed (NC), or changeover (COM). These contacts determine how the current flow is controlled when the switch is actuated.
  • Housing: The microswitches are housed in a robust enclosure that protects them from environmental influences and ensures a long service life.

Sealed switches

  • Various certifications such as UL, CE, cUL, ENEC, CQC, RoHS, IEC Ex, ATEX
  • Wide range of actuators, connections, and operating and electrical characteristics
  • More robust performance
  • Can be operated even under many difficult/harsh environmental conditions
  • Sealed with integrated cables in accordance with IP67
  • Suitable for applications where the switch assembly is exposed to liquids or dirt particles

Honeywell's high-quality sealed and unsealed miniature base switches are designed for long-term reliability of up to 10 million cycles. These switches feature a snap-action mechanism that has been proven for more than 60 years and a high-strength thermoplastic housing for long-term durability. Available with custom solutions and multiple lever/terminal options, Honeywell also offers switches with LATCH terminals.
